Civil Rights' Series
I went to one of the nights of the Civil Rights’ Series in the Media Center of TN Tech University’s library. It was a really moving display of the horrible times the African Americans went through in order to gain rights in America. It showed Martin Luther King Jr. speaking and many of the events that went on during that particular time. Going through the years of grammar school I had learned about some of the particular stories with the civil rights’ movement, but never had I seen such a dramatic and emotional light into the movement. I saw the madness of blacks being beaten by white men. I saw police officers spitting in the faces of the black men and women for absolutely no reason. There were blown up fights spinning out of control instantly. I am so blessed to be born and raised in this time and in a free country. The people of that time were not so lucky. I can now see why some people are so passionate about those situations. I can now see what my grandmother was talking about when she would try to explain some events to me. Even now I can’t say that I know how it was, and I can’t say I feel their pain. But I feel like I can at least say I now know more in detail about the events that went on during that time, and I can have educational conversations with some of the people that were once involved.
